The Canadian Center for Women’s Empowerment (CCFWE) is a national non-profit organization dedicated to empowering domestic violence survivors to recover from economic abuse through advocacy, education, and policy change.

CCFWE is the only Canadian non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness of economic abuse and transforming responses to it. Our vision is a world where domestic violence survivors can access and receive the resources they require to develop and achieve economic empowerment, and in doing so, improve their general well-being.

We work in partnership to ensure women have access to and control over their own economic resources. We focus on four strategic priorities: public education and awareness-raising; mental health and wellness; ensuring systems do not inadvertently facilitate economic abuse; and influencing policy. Our aim now is to ensure that Canadian private and public sector policies and practices recognize economic abuse, so that victim-survivors are supported to achieve economic justice, and abusers are held accountable for their behaviours.

We have an immediate need for assistance in helping us prepare for our November conference. We are asking for a four month commitment towards that goal. (There is an opportunity to participate beyond that time!)

Social Media and Marketing Coordinator

Summary
Canadian Center for Women ‘s Empowerment (CCFWE) supports domestic violence survivors through advocacy and policy change to achieve long term safety and financial stability. Mission to empower domestic violence survivors through advocacy, financial literacy, and economic empowerment. We work with survivors and financial institutions by providing our clients with different resources such as advocacy and mentorship to establish and strengthen their financial security. Women’s benefits include enhancement to their physical and mental well-being along with empowerment through economic self-sustainability.
We are looking for a dedicated Social Media and Marketing Volunteer Coordinator to implement and coordinate our social media strategy across various platforms.

Responsibility

  1. Produce, edit and customize content for all our platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram)
  2. Execute on marketing strategy for public awareness campaigns and events
  3. Collaborate with Communications Manager and CCFWE team on marketing campaigns and strategies
  4. Define the most important social media KPIs
  5. Coordinate marketing and promotional material in support of campaigns, including timelines, design and messaging of related promotional materials
  6. Measure the success of every social media campaign
  7. Research audience preferences and discover current trends
  8. Create engaging text, image and content for accounts on blog, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other social media platforms as required
  9. Maintain a working knowledge of the pop culture social media space, including trends and new/emerging social platforms
  10. Ensure content follows best practices, meets strategic priorities and adheres to CCFWE values and culture

Qualifications

  1. 1- 2 years of experience as a Social Media Coordinator or similar role
  2. Post-Secondary in Communications, Journalism, or Public Relations
  3. Social Media Strategist using social media for brand awareness and impressions
  4. Excellent knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Instagram, Google+ and other social media best practices
  5. Strong written communications skills and ability to create engaging and relevant content suitable for various social media platforms.
  6. Excellent knowledge of basic marketing principles like audience targeting, segmentation, and campaign planning.
  7. Excellent knowledge of the use of social media management tools hootsuite and buffer.
  8. Understanding of web traffic metrics
  9. Experience working with non for profit organization
  10. Good understanding of social media KPIs and use of social media analytics tools to track and measure performance.
  11. Familiarity with web design and publishing
  12. Basic graphic design skills to create visually appealing graphics, and other visual content for social media.
  13. Excellent multitasking skills
  14. Critical thinker and problem-solving skills

Time Commitment: 3-5 hours per week (Remote)

Duration: Ongoing with expectation for at least a 6 month duration

Website Development and Maintenance Coordinator

The Canadian Center for Women’s Empowerment (CCFWE) (www.ccfwe.org) is looking for a Volunteer Website Maintenance Volunteer Coordinator. The Website Development and Maintenance Volunteer Coordinator will work collaboratively with the Communications Director and other staff and volunteers. This position is a solid opportunity to expand your portfolio, further your skills in web development as well as to obtain experience in the non-profit sector.

Your responsibilities include:

  1. Content Management: Regularly update and publish new content, such as articles, blog posts, event announcements, and success stories, ensuring the website remains current and engaging.
  2. Technical Updates: Perform routine software updates, including plugins and themes, to maintain website functionality and security.
  3. Visual Enhancements: Add and optimize images, videos, and other media to enhance the visual appeal and engagement of the website.
  4. Design Consistency: Ensure consistent design elements, typography, and branding across all website pages to reinforce the nonprofit’s visual identity.
  5. Navigation and User Experience (UX): Monitor and improve website navigation and layout to ensure a user-friendly experience and easy access to information.
  6. Create and manage online forms, surveys, and interactive elements that facilitate user engagement and data collection.
  7. Search Engine Optimization (SEO): Implement SEO best practices, such as optimizing meta tags, headings, and keywords, to improve the website’s search engine visibility.
  8. Ensure the website conforms to accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) to make content usable by all users, including those with disabilities.
  9. Track website performance using tools like Google Analytics, providing insights to optimize content and user engagement strategies.
  10. Troubleshooting and Support: Address technical issues, resolve broken links, and provide basic user support to ensure a smooth and functional website experience.

Qualifications:

  1. University degree or certificate program (or equivalent) in IT, Computer Science, Marketing, Communications, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  2. 1-2 years’ in managing and updating websites using platforms like WordPress, Wix, or Joomla.
  3. Content Updates: Capable of regularly adding and editing website content, such as text, images, and multimedia.
  4. Technical Proficiency: Basic knowledge of HTML and CSS for making minor code adjustments and formatting improvements.
  5. Attention to Detail: Strong eye for detail to maintain a polished and error-free website appearance.
  6. Problem Solving: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve minor technical issues that may arise on the website.
  7. Time Management: Skilled at prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines for timely content updates.
  8. Familiarity with creating user-friendly and easy-to-navigate web pages
  9. Solid communication skills and the ability to work autonomously in remote and distributed teams.
  10. Comfortable training people (remote mode) who are unfamiliar with the use of the website’s CMS.

Level of Commitment – Very flexible we will work with your schedule. Remote work, home-based 3-5 hours /week for 3 to 6 months.

Board members join a purpose-driven  organization and lend their experience and passion as a key decision-maker and partner to this important cause. This is an exciting opportunity to create a meaningful impact within your community and in the lives of many individuals and their families.

CCFWE is recruiting new board members to join our Board of Directors. Board Members are responsible for governance oversight of the organization. Meetings are held every second month, with board committees meeting in addition. 

The Board of Directors is collectively accountable to the members, community, funders, and other stakeholders. He/she/ They accountable for the organization’s performance in relation to its mission and strategic objectives, and for the effective stewardship of financial and human resources.

Areas of Focus: Women’s empowerment, economic justice, gender-based violence, financial equity and system change. 

Time Commitment & Term

2 – 3 hours/ month for a two-year renewable term  Accountability: The Board of Directors is collectively responsible for the organization’s performance in respect to the mission and objectives of the organization and for the stewardship of financial resources. The Directors are accountable to members, key stakeholders, and the community in general.

Authority: The Board has collective authority over the governance of CCFWE, including financial operations, strategic direction, and understanding of the strategic environment within which the organization operates. The Board Co-Chairs give direction to the Executive Director as necessary between Board Meetings. 

Duties include:

  • Prepare for and attend board meetings
  • Work as a team member and support board decisions
  • Review, clarify and amend the mission and objectives of the organization
  • Develop, amend and approve by-laws and governing policies outlining key financial, staff/personnel, and board practices
  • Monitor the performance of the organization
  • Keep informed about community issues relevant to CCFWE
  • Participate in the recruitment of new Board members
  • Participate  and contribute in Board Sub- Committees
  • Participate in strategic planning and governance processes

Qualifications: 

We’re currently seeking up to 3 new Directors with the following experience:

  1. A background in Law; a focus in family law or support of survivors of domestic abuse would be considered an asset
  2. Philanthropy/Fund-Raising expertise 
  3. Finance experience; accounting, financial planning and/or budget management 

 

General attributes/experiences:

 

  • Lived personal experience or as a loved one of someone impacted by violence, trauma and/or mental health challenges
  • Represent and/or have knowledge of our priority populations including but not limited to racialized populations, Indigenous communities, refugees, low-income families, precariously housed and those experiencing family violence.
  • Social work, expertise in Gender Equality, Family violence, mental health and homelessness
  • French language skills (Strong Asset)

Research and Evaluation (VOLUNTEER)

Position Overview:

Department: Education – Financial Literacy Program
Reporting to: Project Manager
Duration: 3 months – hours 3-5 hrs a week.
Location: Remote
Start date: ASAP

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research on financial literacy resources and best practices to support the team in developing educational materials.
  • Assist in the creation and development of financial literacy resources, including toolkits, guides, and educational materials, based on gathered research.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop evaluation tools and methodologies to assess the effectiveness of financial literacy programs.
  • Collect and analyze data from various sources to evaluate the impact of financial literacy initiatives on target audiences.
  • Support the team in preparing reports, presentations, and other documentation summarizing research findings and evaluation results.
  • Assist in organizing and maintaining databases related to financial literacy resources, program outcomes, and participant feedback.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas for improving financial literacy initiatives and evaluation processes.
  • Stay updated on trends and developments in the field of survivor-centered and trauma-informed financial literacy and intersectional evaluation methodologies to enhance the team’s effectiveness.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, education, social sciences, gender studies or related field.
  • 1 – 3 years of research and analytical experience or equivalent education, training, and experience.
  • Strong interest in economic abuse, gender-based violence, financial literacy and education.
  • Understanding of survivor-centered and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Demonstrated empathy, sensitivity, and cultural competence.
  • Experience in developing evaluation tools and methodologies.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data from various sources.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and online research tools.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills, able to work both i
  • ndependently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports and presentations. (French and other languages are an asset.)
