WHAT IS ECONOMIC JUSTICE POLICY?

Economic justice is the idea that the economy will be more successful if it is fairer. The goal is to create opportunities for all to succeed regardless of sex, race, age, disability, color, creed, national origin, religion, or genetic information. The main principles of economic justice policy include universal basic income, income equality by gender and race, and equal opportunity for employment and credit.

We’re committed to changing policies to help victims of Economic Abuse and injustice. Our goal is to help them become financially independent and live safely and healthily. We advocate for and support the development of new approaches to eradicating Economic Abuse and post-separation abuse by addressing gaps in systems and policies.

Our policy influencing approach is informed by lived experiences of survivors, particularly in the Black, people of color, Indigenous, immigrants, senior citizens, newcomers and gender diverse communities as well as evidence-based practices which form an essential resource to inform and develop better policies and recommendations.

To address Economic Justice in a holistic approach, CCFWE is working with coalitions of women’s community organizations, financial institutions, Credit unions, banks, utility companies, essential service providers, telecommunication companies, industry regulators, ombudsman services, local and national governments, the criminal justice system (police, prosecutors, and the judiciary system), the family justice system, consumer lawyers as well as researchers and academics to influence government and industry responses to the financial impact of domestic and family violence.

In 2023, CCFWE conducted a National Provincial Territorial Policy Score Map and beyond that contributed to economic justice and security. We’ve identified key areas that can enhance economic justice and security efforts across the Province. Learn more here.
