About Us:
The Canadian Center for Women’s Empowerment is based in Ottawa, and the only Canadian non-profit dedicated to addressing all forms of Economic Abuse and economic injustice. CCFWE combats systemic barriers faced by women experiencing Economic Abuse survivors through education, community based research, economic and financial empowerment, policy influencing and system change. Our work applies an equity-lens to policy, and is informed by evidence and lived experience of
victim-survivors. Our work focuses on Economic Abuse prevention and response through meaningful community engagement. We bring violence and trauma -informed practices to inform policy systems, enabling victims, survivors, and their families to achieve economic empowerment.
Position Summary:
As a Policy Analyst at CCFE, you will thrive in a collaborative and fast-paced environment, contributing to the development of strategic initiatives that advance CCFWE’s mission through evidence-based policy recommendations.
In this role, you will conduct research, produce, and write policy positions, ensuring that all materials are engaging, accurate, and aligned with organizational values.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent research, analytical, and writing skills, along with the ability to take initiative. Familiarity with government processes and best research practices is essential, as is the capacity to craft concise briefs tailored to specific audiences.
We encourage applicants who may not have direct policy experience but demonstrate strong writing and research abilities and the capability to quickly grasp ne concepts to
apply. This includes candidates with lived experience of economic abuse.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Develop high-quality briefing materials, including research reports, policy briefs, slide decks, speech notes and decision papers for CCFWE and committees.
- Summarize complex policy issues and research into clear, concise writing that facilitates prompt decision-making and aligns with CCFWE’s policy objectives.
- Analyze regulatory objectives, review initiatives from other jurisdictions, and evaluate the various implications of these options.
- Conduct Research on grey literature (e.g., reports, policy briefs) and
peer-reviewed studies to gather evidence for policy recommendations, identify data gaps, and highlight best practices and emerging trends.
- Monitor news outlets, press releases, and government announcements to stay informed on emerging issues, trends, and actions that may require a policy response or adaptation.
- Gather and analyze data related to grant project performance, ensure alignment with required KPIs, and prepare necessary reports.
- Assist the Director in developing federal and provincial advocacy strategies to address economic abuse based on the research findings.
- Produce talking points, key messages, and Q&A binders for executives.
- Perform other tasks assigned by the Director.
Essential Qualifications:
- Completion of a degree in Business, Policy, Public Administration, Social Sciences, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in policy analysis or a role that primarily involves writing, research, and analytical skills.
- Strong writing skills, with the ability to convey information precisely and concisely, tailored to the target audience.
- Knowledge of issues scanning and ability to stay abreast of current issues.
- Knowledge of federal and provincial legislation, processes, and public policy.
- Familiarity with issues affecting victims of domestic violence and economic abuse.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, independently, and in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to manage multiple simultaneous assignments and meet tight deadlines.
- Team-oriented, comfortable leading and incorporating constructive feedback from diverse sources, resulting in polished, professional outcomes.
- Proactive Approach, able to anticipate the needs of leadership and when required, represent senior leaders in communications with stakeholders.
Assets
- Experience working with persons who have experienced economic abuse.
- Understanding of Gender-Based Analysis+ and familiarity with intersectional and equity-focused policy analysis.
- Experience conducting Feminist Research and policy analysis.
- Experience working in Advocacy related to gender equality, economic and social justice research.
- Bilingual proficiency in both French and English written and oral.
- Coursework or experience in quantitative and qualitative research methods is highly desirable.
