Senior Communications, Marketing and Digital Specialist
Location: This is a remote position; however, candidates must be bilingual (English and French)and a resident of Ontario or Quebec.

The Canadian Center for Women’s Empowerment is based in Ottawa, and the only Canadian non-profit dedicated to addressing all forms of Economic Abuse and economic injustice. CCFWE combats systemic barriers faced by women experiencing Economic Abuse survivors through education, community based research, economic and financial empowerment, policy influencing and system change. Our work applies an equity-lens to policy, and is informed by evidence and lived experience of victim-survivors. Our work focuses on Economic Abuse prevention and response through meaningful community engagement. We bring violence and trauma -informed practices to inform policy systems, enabling victims, survivors, and their families to achieve economic empowerment.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a Senior Communication, Marketing and Digital Specialist who is passionate about social justice and gender equality. The ideal candidate will manage CCFWE digital marketing platforms—including the website, social media accounts, and email campaigns—while bringing innovative ideas to life. They should possess a thorough understanding of major social media tools, up-to-date marketing strategies, and a desire to deliver impactful results. The Specialist will collaborate effectively with the organization’s team, volunteers, and both internal and external stakeholders to ensure that all campaigns and projects are delivered on time and meet the project and organization objectives.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Communications and Project Management

- Collaborate with management to develop and implement an effective communications strategy tailored to our target audience.

- Oversee and lead CCFWE awareness campaign, and advocacy events through all stages, including planning, implementation, execution and evaluation.

- Monitor, evaluate, and analyze marketing and communication KPIs to ensure high performance across all campaigns, maintain benchmarks, and deliver recommendations for improvement.

- Co-write, edit, and distribute compelling digital marketing content, such as publications, press releases, website content, reports, and speeches, to effectively communicate the organization’s activities, products, and services.

- Research, develop, and implement new communications programs, including direct mail, social media, and media relations formats, while writing and pitching media backgrounders and press releases based on project proposals.

- Design and coordinate the production (approval, translation, printing, distribution) of external communication publications, including annual reports and a bi-annual newsletter.

- In collaboration with the CCFWE team, manage integrated Direct & Digital Marketing campaign strategy.

- Seek opportunities to enhance CCFWE’s brand reputation, this includes (Creating a tool for National Taskforce members to share resources.

- Manage and oversee volunteers, interns, and writers who support the organization’s work, ensuring effective coordination and productivity.
Stakeholder Engagement and External communication

- Manage and document communication relationships with members, government officials, key partners, and stakeholders to drive system change.

- Support communication outreach for CCFWE TD Project programming

- Identify appropriate communications channels for sharing CCFWE and organization stories/ messaging for system change.

- Coordinate, facilitate, and record all the meetings of CCFWE’s Project Advisory Committee
Media and Digital Marketing

- Create and schedule posts for all social media channels and CCFWE’s website.

- Collect data and work with the Manager to report findings and provide insights to the Executive Director.

- Deliver engaging and timely social media content that maintains our brand and strategic priorities, while enhancing online engagement.

- Execute social media strategy across all channels to drive organizational messages, appeals, website traffic, and build brand and issue awareness.

- Develop and execute social media campaigns for key dates e.g. help us rise campaign

- Collaborate with the program team in developing and posting stories, collecting pictures and articles to raise awareness of CCFWE’’s work, demonstrating impact, promoting campaigns, etc.

- Maintain records of media coverage and collate analytics and metrics
Essential Qualifications:

- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, international relations or equivalent combination of education and work experience

- Minimum of 5 years of experience working in non for profit advocacy/policy/ marketing and social media management ideally within the social services sector.

- Excellent communication and advocacy skills – particularly in the areas of women’s rights, human rights, domestic abuse, equity and/or social justice.

- Strong knowledge of web-based knowledge management systems, social media algorithms, and the use of analytics and statistics.

- Creative and engaging methods for audience interaction, with a comprehensive understanding of working with Canva, Constant Contact, Hootsuite and MailChimp.

- Expertise in marketing and communications, brand management, programmatic communications, digital communications, social media, and public engagement.

- Proven experience in effective communications, including an understanding of how to utilize news media, and strategic placement of policy-related messages to persuade audiences.

- Ability to analyze and interpret key policy positions and provide thoughtful recommendations that capture attention.

- Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to craft correspondence suited for various audiences in both English and French.

- Hands-on experience in developing community engagement strategies, communication plans, fundraising, marketing initiative and national advocacy campaigns

- Excellent interpersonal and networking skills, with a high degree of cultural awareness and sensitivity, enabling effective engagement with diverse audiences, including civil society, experts, donors, and government representatives.

- Strong planning and organizational skills, with the ability to juggle multiple tasks and competing priorities.

- Experience working with third party contractors, agencies and/or service providers.

- Prior experience doing communications and marketing work on a National level

- Someone who has lived experience and a proven track record working with vulnerable populations.
